Sometimes it seems like ideas just come through you, instead of to you.

Was thinking about [livejournal.com profile] alobar's description of the game of Destiny, and his lament that there was not a large enough group of familiar people in New Orleans to have a viable game. I thought, "Well, we'll just have to bring them *back* here, then," and the following idea was born. Of course, it is now way beyond the game of Destiny, but I'm on a roll now.

Suppose a conclave were to be held, perhaps under the auspices of [livejournal.com profile] lady_babalon's Raven Clan. Suppose certain former (and future?) residents of New Orleans who now live in Massachusetts and Texas, and others, could be enticed to come here for an extended weekend.

Sketchier parts of the idea started to flesh themselves out while I was in the shower this morning. A possible location might be the clothing-optional campground in Slidell where the Wyldfyre festivals were held. As I understand it the owner of the place is pagan-friendly, though I'm not so sure about the management. (I know that three or four of you were directly involved with this -- do any of you care to speak on whether this is a viable option? I'm not about to call LC and ask.)

Since many of the friends who came to mind have an interest in BDSM it seems logical to acknowledge that in some way.

If we set it around Mabon, the preceeding weekend (Sept. 19-21) seems like a reasonable time to hold a campout in New Orleans. Another thought is Samhain, but I think the nights in Slidell are actually cool enough in late October to cause some of us to have hesitations about camping out then.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I would prefer to keep this as informal as possible. Nothing organized whatsoever -- perhaps a short itinerary of events -- but more or less just an agreed upon place and time.

Fishy and I loved Indian Hills. They never seemed to really care what we did as long as we didn't bother the residents or burn the place down. Its a funny group there. A lot of old backwoods types, all nudist but otherwise pretty straitlaced. I think the best time was when this drunken southern woman started having this conversation with a much pierced woman there. Lots and lots of "Oh mah Gawd! DIdn't that hurt! It makes me hurt just to look at you!" Definitely hicks, but open-minded hicks.

Obviously (I should hope) illegal drug use would be something they wouldn't like, not wanting to lose their place or anything. Not that I would tell anyone what to do, but just suggesting - keep it subtle enough to be ignored if that is the intention. They do not appear to be concerned with drinking. The oddest thing about them is their pricing policy, which seems to change daily, but often is based on how many men are in your party. Essentially, men get charged to show up and women do not. From what I understand, this is from their fear that the place would become a huge gay bath house. Okay, they're SORT OF open-minded hicks. There's only so much you can expect in Slidell - I was amazed there was a nudist camp at all when I first heard of it.

Katiana and me went there one extremely hot summer day. There were several old guys drinking by the pool. While we got occasional admiring glances, we were not harassed in any way. Nudists are funny that way - they are less likely to sexually harass a pretty unclothed girl than "normal" people on the street are likely to harass the same girl when she's wearing clothes...

You may ask akaiyume and secret_willow about the camp site too, they went there as well. I know I cannot visit in September, but perhaps secret willow can.

The timing is entirely open, of course. I would rather wait if it meant more people could come.

Well, you know I'll be down for Mardi Gras next year... I'm gonna try to get secret_willow to come too. Maybe a post Mardi Gras fling? Might be nice after the crowded chaos...

How long after Mardi Gras? I am usually drained the day after, but if I knew a conclave was immediately following, I would be sure to reserve energy (and vacation days).

Dunno yet. Maybe if this gets posted to the list we can get a consensus.

[livejournal.com profile] ravenia and I went to Indian Hills once. The place grossed me out. The people tried to be friendly but I just never felt comfortable. Part was the huge piles of trash on the land.

But it does not much matter what my feelings are. Unless the economy turns areound radically, I do not see me taking any weekeds off from work in the forseeable future except if it is too stormy or cold to work.

I am also settled more & more into my old hermit routine. Camping was never fun for me unless I knew the land well. So my lethargy factor is high.

I do widh good furtune to manifesting this idea, but I probably won't be going.

It would be ironic if the person who's comments inspired this idea was unable to be there.

I don't see a practical way around doing this on a weekend -- unless we follow [livejournal.com profile] lady_babalon's suggestion of doing it immediately following Mardi Gras, which I am liking more and more. If we do it then, we might also be able to get some of the Zee-list crowd from DC who, AFAIK, have been making yearly sojourns for Mardi Gras.

To be honest I am not crazy about camping either. I have to have a respirator to sleep with and I am just not a woodsy person. But seclusion seemed like a logical suggestion for a gathering of this sort.

The place, also, is just a suggestion. There are other places we could hold the thing, all is on the table. Indian Hills seemed like a good fit because of the basically-friendly attitude there. But I'm certain another site can be found between now and then.

Notes that Indian Hills and such are probably in the uninhabitable off limits zones. And lots of the people are gone. We will see what we can do. Part of my thought is mainly helping people who need it and bringing some beauty and hope back.

It doesn't have to be Indian Hills, any kind of private property would do.

Maybe it would work better in '07 or '08, after things have levelled off a bit.

Yeah. The ground could be filled with toxins right now, we just don't know.
