Personally? I don't want anyone to nag me about not having updated my LiveJournal. This is MY journal, i don't exist for people's entertainment. So i have disabled this new feature. Here's how to do it (thanks to daweaver):

1. Go here

2. In the scary blank box, type:
set disable_nudge 1

3. Click the Execute button.

I can't really get bothered about it since I so rarely go a week without updating. But I can see why it would annoy some people.

I don't know that anyone would ever 'need' to nudge me either, i've been here on LJ for 3 1/2 years now, and haven't ever gone more than a week or so without updating. But it's the principle of the thing: that there's a button there inviting people to poke at me to "dance, my puppet, dance!"

I fully agree. If someone wants to write me an e-mail to find out something, that's cool. But the nudge concept is just rude and obnoxious.

if i am not updating into any LJ, it is because i am either sick or busy, and that is that...

it reminds me of when younger people think it is amusing to send me a "*poke*" message via IM if i have looked away from the computer for any reason, or have taken too long to come back from a run to the kitchen,etc.... when someone types *poke* i swear i can literally feel it on my arm and i end up gritting my teeth. blah :-(

if a friend of mine has gone silent via LJ, and wasn't updating at all for a while, i contact them via email (what a concept) or go into an old post of theirs and post and off-topic comment just asking "honey, are you okay? i am worried because you haven't posted in a while"...

i just don't even see the need for the "nudge"....

One the most annoying things i've ever encountered online is when someone i'm chatting with on YM "buzzes" me. It is viscerally jarring, and until i learned how to disable it, those who've done it earned a permanent "ignore" in response. I think it is incredibly rude, but then, i find instant messaging annoying in general.

But you, i'd forgive. Someone who is trying to pick me up, whom one would imagine is attempting to make a good impression... no, he doesn't have permission to buzz me.

Fox and I found this out before the official announcement, so we played around with it. The message it sends is really kind of offensive. If it was nicer and sounded more like "hey, I miss you!" rather than "go update because if you don't, people will stop being your friend" then I could get behind it, but as it is, no.
