For a long time Clive Barker has been one of my favorite authors. His novels and movies have been labelled "horror," largely because he is not afraid to shy away from moments of gore or psychological turmoil. But by giving heroes and villians who are at turns flawed and sympathetic he forces us to examine our own motives and inspirations. He is at his best when evoking imagery of other realms, and his stories are just as likely to lead through territory that is as ecstatic as terrifying.

I think of him as the heir to H. P. Lovecraft.

My shopping trip last night officially marked my rededication to low carb.

I'm craving sugar now pretty heavily. Sugar! I must be strong and persevere. The downside to low-carb eating is that cheating is an absolute no-no, especially in the early days. It throws everything off for hours, if not the whole day.

If it is your will, read my post about the Trinity here in [livejournal.com profile] challenging_god and here in [livejournal.com profile] convert_me.

sacred sex

This idea has been floating around in my mind since a discussion some time ago in [livejournal.com profile] yahvah's journal.

For a time I actually wrote an online column about the subject of sacred sex. The idea that sex is sacred, and sacredness often has a sexual undercurrent, is natural to me.

The authors of Why God Won't Go Away believe that the mystical parts of the brain evolved hand-in-hand with the parts of the brain that make sex enjoyable.
