Uptown parades roll tonight, which begins a two-and-a-half week period of major inconvenience for me and everyone else living in the Irish Channel/Lower Garden District. For most of the afternoon and evening on parade days most of the roads leading into and out of my neighborhood are blocked and full of cars. It gets progressively worse leading up to Mardi Gras. This year will probably be especially bad because the Mid-City parade route has been re-routed to Uptown due to construction on Canal street.

But, I am not really complaining, not at all. I enjoy the Uptown parade crowd much more than the crowd in the CBD or on Canal. More laid back, not as many people willing to throw fisticuffs over a stupid green-yellow-and-purple stuffed animal. I live within walking distance of the parade route.

For those on my friends list who have a patron deity who's name shows up among the Uptown or Mid-City parade routes on the parade schedule here, let me know if you want me to catch cups and doubloons emblazoned with the name of your patron deity. I will then send these to you. They are kind of chintzy and cheap but might make desirable altar implements nonetheless. :) (No promises on Bacchus, though, the Bacchus medalliions are not always easy to come by.)

I take it the wonderfully politically satiric Vieux Carre parade has already happened?

Yes... and ::sob!!:: I missed it. Was too tired/headachy to go. I heard it wasn't as good this year as it has been in the past, though.

How sweet of you!

I have a Bacchus one from 2001 that I got through eBay. Bacchus would definitely be my first choice, but Hermes, Chaos, Orphesus, Okeanos, or the Muses would be nice too :)

I will send you money for postage also.

Hermes, Chaos, Orpheus, Okeanos, Muses, Bacchus. Check.

Hermes and Muses are two of my favorite parades -- Muses because of overabundant throws, and Hermes because of the general excellence of the floats and themes.

I'll collect as much as possible of these. :)

Thank you :) Wish I could be there! New Orleans is someplace I've always wanted to visit, especially Anne Rice's house.

What are the cups like? I didn't know they gave those out too.

King Arthur and Merlin, I should be able to get something from that parade as well. :)

Ha, I didn't know that about Merlin! I do recall seeing his name written in Welsh as Myrddwn or somesuch.

HaShem? Not that I'm aware of. But there used to be quite a while back a few krewes with sufi and muslim themes. But as for "Big Kahuna," I suppose King of Carnival (Rex) might count...

ha shem

Oh, you might enjoy a cup or two from the Friar Tucks parade too. That's one of my favorite parades -- one of the more irreverent ones -- so I'll be sure to come away from that with some nifty stuff.

Krewe of Oshun? (tonight, short notice, I know)

I hope to arrive in time for two of my favorites - Babylon followed b the relatively new Chaos parade (one wonders how many upper level Krewe members are Thelemites, to come up with such a schedule!)

Yes, I was planning to go to the parades tonight, so I should be able to catch you something.

BTW when are you planning to arrive?

> two-and-a-half week period

I am scratchin my head here. You been celebratin da Gra early? Or is my clanadar not working right? Looks to me to be more like a week and a half.

Looks like the deluge has decided to pre-empt the parades tonight unless weather shifts dramatically.

As I never make parades these days due to work, I'd appreciate it if you could grab me one doubloon each from any padade appropriate to Geburrah, Yesod, Tiphareth, and Netzach for my Tree of Life altar at work. Someone swiped those doubloons a while back & I have not yet replaced them.

(Counting on fingers) Looks like you're right. I was way off.

I was going to ask whether you determine the qabalistic correspondence by color, name of krewe, or parade theme, but I think it would be easier just to get doubloons from every parade I go to and then you can tell me which ones are for Geburah, Yesod, Tiphareth, and Netzach.
