Uptown parades roll tonight, which begins a two-and-a-half week period of major inconvenience for me and everyone else living in the Irish Channel/Lower Garden District. For most of the afternoon and evening on parade days most of the roads leading into and out of my neighborhood are blocked and full of cars. It gets progressively worse leading up to Mardi Gras. This year will probably be especially bad because the Mid-City parade route has been re-routed to Uptown due to construction on Canal street.
But, I am not really complaining, not at all. I enjoy the Uptown parade crowd much more than the crowd in the CBD or on Canal. More laid back, not as many people willing to throw fisticuffs over a stupid green-yellow-and-purple stuffed animal. I live within walking distance of the parade route.
For those on my friends list who have a patron deity who's name shows up among the Uptown or Mid-City parade routes on the parade schedule here, let me know if you want me to catch cups and doubloons emblazoned with the name of your patron deity. I will then send these to you. They are kind of chintzy and cheap but might make desirable altar implements nonetheless. :) (No promises on Bacchus, though, the Bacchus medalliions are not always easy to come by.)

Date: 2003-02-21 10:40 am (UTC)I am scratchin my head here. You been celebratin da Gra early? Or is my clanadar not working right? Looks to me to be more like a week and a half.
Looks like the deluge has decided to pre-empt the parades tonight unless weather shifts dramatically.
As I never make parades these days due to work, I'd appreciate it if you could grab me one doubloon each from any padade appropriate to Geburrah, Yesod, Tiphareth, and Netzach for my Tree of Life altar at work. Someone swiped those doubloons a while back & I have not yet replaced them.
