And it would probably be good to remember that President Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, presided over Waco, and pardoned Marc Rich.

Once someone becomes President, all bets are off.

I'm not sure that's true, the issue seems to be that people get caught up in the theater of it instead of looking at facts. If you look at the things Obama (or Clinton)supported before they were president none of this is particularly surprising.
