The following are Democrats and Republicans who have affirmed (or not denied) that they are considering a presidential run in 2008. (Sorry, Duncan Hunter, there wasn't room for you.) How enthusiastically could you see yourself voting for:

-5 of course means "Not in this lifetime," 0 means "i have no idea," 5 means "Absolutely yes i would vote for this person."

Especially if these are the only choices we have, and we know two years in advance? TIRED.

I'm surprised at the support for Obama, given his recent re-imaging as a pro-religious right conservative.

Overplayed. He's doing exactly what his advisors said he should be doing-mentioning the role religion plays in his life. That does not mean that all religionists are conservative--indeed it's that very notion Dems are trying to combat by having church-going Dems talk about their faith.

I don't necessarily think Obama is the Second Coming, but so far I like him better than any of the others running, and I have not seen him taking any conservative positions on issues. I shall be watching to see what comes in the next 2 years though.

He did vote to reauthorize the USAPATRIOT Act, but besides that his voting record appears to be one of the more liberal in Congress.

He's doing exactly what his advisors said he should be doing-mentioning the role religion plays in his life.

Well, it's rather more than that. He's demonizing secularism. See an analysis here.

Plus, in Obamas' speech he endorses the nasty practice of giving federal tax dollars for the purpose of sectarian religious proselytizing by "faith-based" organizations. The fact that he probably considers Scientologists equally as worthy as Baptists when it comes to hectoring people receiving government aid, doesn't make it less unconstitutional.

I may come back and change my answers after work tonight, when I have more of a chance to know what the hell I'm talking about.
