the ugliest congressional fight?

Vernon Robinson is a Republican challenging incumbent Democrat Brad Miller for North Carolina's 13th House District. There is little doubt that Miller will win re-election, but the contest between them is possibly the ugliest Congressional race going.
The smear began shortly after Robinson won the primary, when he sent out a campaign letter drawing attention to the fact that Miller and his wife are childless. Brad Miller and his wife Esther Hall have subsequently been questioned publically about their sexual orientation, and have been forced to explain that they are childless because of Esther's endometriosis and hysterectomy.
Radio and video ads have since come out accusing Miller of wanting to hold a 'fiesta' for illegal aliens and gleefully supporing a "Homosexual Importation Act" [sic].
Warning, you may feel an intense need to scrub your eyes and ears after viewing this.
Thanks to
pamscoffee for the heads-up.

Date: 2006-08-15 07:22 pm (UTC)hell, Jews have been doing *that* from the very beginning!....
sex for reasons of intimacy and pleasure are part of the agreement when the couple gets married... the husband is contractually(sp??) obligated to sexually satisfy the wife....
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketubah:
"Traditionally, the language of the ketubah formalises the various requirements by the Torah of a Jewish husband vis à vis his wife (e.g. giving her adequate resources for dress, sexual intercourse), and stipulates the sum to be paid by him in case of divorce, which is 200 Zuz (a Talmudic currency) - generally considered the sum to support oneself financially for a full year."
and they are assumed to have sex while she is pregnant and if one or both partners is unable (for whatever reason) to concieve a child (i.e. if she is on the pill, or if one of them is sterile, etc.)...
granted, according to the halacha a man *is* obligated to reproduce (he is expected to have at lest one boy and one girl)... the woman is not "obligated" at all though.. (the reasoning being pregnancy and childbirth are dangers to a person's life and the woman could never be obligated to endanger her life because of that)....
its all just a little "right-of-center" from perfect.... but still more attractive to me than the uber-Xtian mindset of "sex, except for reproduction, is sin"...

Date: 2006-08-15 08:00 pm (UTC)Just for that, i've created a new tag, with links to several of my entries over the last few months about the Chaliban's plot to make sure that each and every one of us marries and has children:

Date: 2006-08-15 09:49 pm (UTC)The church should insist that the biblical formula calls for adulthood to mean marriage and marriage to mean children. This reminds us of our responsibility to raise boys to be husbands and fathers and girls to be wives and mothers.
So I guess all those Catholic priests and nuns are living godless lives, huh? (I mean the ones who aren't pedophiles; they've already proven themselves to be godless, and in need of prison.)
What a crock of shit!
