MySpace could be fun if you want to pretend you are underage and like flirting with creepy men.

I do hope you realize my comment was sarcastic.

Well... yeah.

Haha! Heck, i don't have to pretend to be underage to flirt with creepy men, i hear from plenty all the time anyways.

I have a myspace account, it is pretty much a total waste of pixels. It is difficult to use, has ads all over, etc.

From: [identity profile] alobar.livejournal.com
Even if it had good content, the ads would drive me nutso. I got an account ecause I saw people I knew from LJ had accounts and I wanted to look at their MySpace blogs, which required I register.

And you have to log in again, like, every other page!

It's the most ghastly-slow site on the internet, every time I have to change screens for anything I get bombarded by ads and it seems like most of the pages I go to visit are purple text in 7 point font size on a black background. It eerily reminds me of some 90's geocities pages.

What's up with the fascination with small type in general on the web? I see more and more pages, especially blogs, with microscopic type. I know it's easy to enlarge text in IE, but IMO i shouldn't have to.

I think it's mostly dumb kids with giant monitors and screwed up settings for their browsers. So many of those myspace blogs are set for 1280 px wide and the font/background contrast makes many of them unreadable. Which is why I compare them to the previous scourge of personal web sites - Geocities.

Most blogger or LJ blogs in contrast, have a more professional and readable layout.

I suspect it is an age discrimination thing. My eyes could read real small type when I was 15. Not so good at 30. Now I like 14 point type.

I have one - I was convinced by a friend, I found it to be somewhat crap, hard to set up, and annoying.Pretty much tried it for a week, and not used it since.

That said, I suppose if you've loads of friends on it, it could be a good way of networking, and sparkly things.

I much prefer LJ, I'm such an LJ whore really eep

From: [identity profile] sophiaserpentia.livejournal.com
I doubt i would use it for blogging, heck i don't even use my other LJ accounts anymore really, but i've found that you can't see MySpace pages without having an account, so i'm considering making one just for the odd occasion where it's the only way i'll get to see something.

That is, assuming there's anything worth seeing there.

Yeah, I signed up because one of my best friends from high school posts lots of pictures there. That's about the only use I get out of it. I didn't even fill out my page, I just use it to log in.

Yeah, I went to look at MySpace recently because it seems like just everybody has one and the people who are adherents are like "OMG this is the best thing since sliced bread!" but when I went I found it to be an irritating, cacophanous mess.
I think I'm too old for My Space...

The only reason that I personally like it is because I can keep up with a lot of friends (especially after the hurricane). I have even found many old friends that I lost touch with over the years (from elementary school and up).

i found the set-up there counter-intuitive, difficult to learn and then remember, hated the lack of privacy, thought the layout was clumsy and ugly... doesn't really feel so much like a blogging site as a "hook-up" site...

i *do* have an account there, mind you, so that i can sign in and see members-only sorts of things, but i can't even tell you the last time i updated it...

It sucks.

Blogging would be impossible - the set up makes little to no sense and there are 4million infuriating things about every aspect of it.

The only reason to get one is that every person on the planet (besides you) has one and so if you want to find someone THERE THEY ARE.

What myspace has taught me though is that 80% of the human race is made up of 14 year old girls who are very angry at mom and dad.

there is nothing good about that site at all. LJ is better in so many ways, even if you don't count aesthetics.

i take it back. there is one good thing about myspace: if the kind of people who like myspace didn't have myspace, they'd end up swarming places like LJ instead.

Funny, I've been wondering the same thing myself. I've been lurking on it for a few days and think I'll stay that way for a while. I can't think of a great reason to want to advertise myself there but keeping a semi-anonymous account is entertaining me for the moment.

The story of Salome has been made into over a dozen films, twice in 1923 alone! This version stars (and was financed by) Alla Nazimova, the diva/dancer, and is directed by Charles Bryant. The art direction, costume design and incidental writing were done by Natacha Rambova, Nazimova's lover at the time. It's filmed in B&W, and runs about an hour and 15 minutes long.

* A copy of this film survives at Eastman House (Rochester, New York).

* Said to have been filmed with an all-gay cast, in honor of the playwright, Oscar Wilde.

* Oscar Wilde wrote the original play in French in 1891. An English translation was made and was in rehearsal in 1894, but was banned by officials on the basis that it was illegal to depict Biblical characters on the stage. Its first live performance was in Paris, France in 1896 (Wilde was jailed from 1895 to 1897). It was not performed in England until 1931.

* In addition to producing, writing, and actually directing, Nazimova also financed the film herself. Its total failure (both domestic and overseas) left her broke.

* The women courtiers are played by men in drag.

If you don't mind the mind-boggling amount of chain letters. Sure.
If you don't mind annoying comments like 'You've been hit by the SeXor Truck! Quick, pass this onto 50 of your friends to prove you like them!' then go for it.
If you don't mind obscure piddling little bands constantly trying to friend you, it's great.
If you don't mind "features" that are constantly broken or under repair, sign up!
If you don't mind being a pawn of Rupert Murdock, then get an account.

I find that most people don't really blog all that much on it. They just use it to leave annoying comments on people's profiles, post ridiculous pictures of themselves or spam.

The only really useful thing that I've found is the ability to snoop on other people. It seems like *everyone* has a myspace profile. I've found a good amount of people I went to highschool with.

I have a myspace account (I went through a networking site whore phase a while back0 and I'll be honest:

The interface is AWFUL, the site itself is often down/buggy, and the general population is Teh Suxxor.

Oh, and now it's owned by Rupert Murdoch.

So there you go. I say you aren't missing out on jack crap.
