So, The Da Vinci Code is coming to the big screen. For anyone who does not know the storyline, it is pointedly, highly critical of Christianity and Christian doctrine. It will be the most Christian-critical major movie to come out since Stigmata. (And will foster even more misunderstanding of Gnostic Christianity, but that's a rant for another day.)
It is interesting that this movie, a near certain blockbuster, is coming out at this time in this country... especially given the recent success of V for Vendetta.
This means basically that this year we have at least two very popular movies with content strongly encouraging people to question what they believe and what they've been told.
Is Hollywood positioning itself as the voice of revolution? Are movie producers realizing there's an audience for the message of revolution and are simply reflecting this growing sentiment in the country's mood? Or... OR... is Hollywood doing its part to help the corporations co-opt and misappropriate the language of revolution? The answer will remain to be seen, but i will note for now that the movie version of V for Vendetta notably does not promote anarchy, as the original graphic novel explicitly does.
