Date: 2006-04-13 09:06 pm (UTC)Still, this list is very thoughtful.
I wonder about the obsession with biological families and having both parents at the top, though. Adopted children don't have as good a quality of life? (I know they say that about single-parented children, although there is a deal of evidence to show that it isn't having only one parent that does it).

Date: 2006-04-14 01:56 am (UTC)I do consider myself blessed. I was adopted at 2 months old by older parents Although things weren't perfect and there were times we did struggle due to lay-offs, and my father's health issues, I did learn unconditional love and loyalty. We had some struggles and fights, and they made a few descisions that in retrospect they probably shouldn't have but, they tried their best with what they knew.
My mother attends the MCC church, finds herself surrounded and supported by the gay community since my father passed. It's my community, and it is giving her more support than her own church does. She is 82 and thinking about working part-time at our bookstore there or teaching Sunday school.
