My background shows up sometimes, sometimes it's not there.

Does anyone else here ever get this error? I've gotten this intermittently every day for the last two or three weeks when trying to view the site.

Error running style: Died in S2::run_code running ReplyPage::print(): Style code didn't finish running in a timely fashion. Possible causes:

  • Infinite loop in style or layer

  • Database busy

Also, I just tried to reply to a comment and got an error message.

It's little crap like this, in addition to the big stuff that's been happening to me, which is making me crazy.

Who do I have to blow to get off of this god-forsaken and accursed Chef-8 subcluster?

I've gotten that message trying to comment in certain people's journals who I'm sure are on Chef-8 too, and now I'm seeing entries from 3 days ago showing up mixed in with the latest friends page entries. Uh oh!

Dude, LJ is rough for you! :( I haven't had any problems besides LJ not emailing me comment notifications.

it will get better.

From my perspective, tech problems have gotten steadily worse over the past two weeks, with no improvement. So, if a few weeks go by with no problems, I'll stop fretting then.

In the meantime, I am preparing a post for [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz asking for clarification about (1) what reassurance they can give beyond "Oh, we learned our lesson" that this won't happen again, and (2) what reassurance they can give that LJ is financially solvent. The increase in tech problems resembles a fairly common pattern of dot-com failure.

Is the intermittant problem universal across browsers? That is to say, does it show up in just one browser, or in all of them? Months ago I started having lots of problems with page not found errors, loss of style, and inablity to post comments into *some* people's LJ -- but no problem with other people's LJ. I was still using IE as my browser of choice, but I discovered on days when things were worse than usual, switching to Netscape helped some. Now that I am using Firefox 99% of the time, the problems have gone. Coincidence? Or a real relationship? Fuck if I know.

Netscape is not good when multiple people use LJ on the same computer. Mozilla grabs someone else's login info from its cookies, and posts my comments and/or entries via their journal instead of mine. This has happened three times on three different computers, so I refuse to access LJ using Mozilla.

At the StarFish house, we use MSN 8, which seems to be a proprietary browser based on IE.

Hi,

I found the LJ backup tool I told you about if you want to check it out. It's just over 500 kb. Let me know where I should send it, if you want it.

I haven't had any problems seeing your background, or any other real probs with LJ lately. I'm glad I'm not on Chef 8, not that that's any consolation to you.

Hmm, I haven't had the cookie problem with Mozilla at all, nor has D. Weird. I think one can set it to delete cookies when you close the browser (if you close it all the way instead of leaving it in the tray.)
