[Poll #299154]

Maybe this poll didn't apply to me, but I answered, anyway. :) I just wanted to say that I think those ideas would be great for those whom want to change their sexual identity. Me, I'd like to be a guy for one day just to know what it feels like to have a penis, but only for that reason. LOL.

I would think the poll applies to everyone. If only people who would experiment change with their gender took it, then it would not be very reflective of the people who read Sophia's jounral.

[livejournal.com profile] sable_twilight is correct, the poll is aimed at everyone. It's interesting to see what kinds of views and attitudes one can find in my friend's list.

If only.

Of course, if this existed, it would be tens of thousands of dollars and insurance wouldn't cover it :/

I already feel as though I don't belong to any particular gender category. It's other people who assign gender to me. I have had people decide I am ultra feminine and I have had people decide I am very butch. I don't really think of myself in those terms most of the time.

It's funny you ask this now... just a couple of days ago, I posted about wanting to be a woman. The main gig was that, apart from all the societial problems, there's the simple physical facts of life. But, if I could reprogram my flesh... oooh. I'd sex myself just like Betty.

Personally, I see the situation as being one person with different forms. For me, it would be analagous to wearing different clothes. I'm still me, regardless of whether I'm wearing the black Hawaiian shirt or the red tank top.

I read this reply a few days ago and thought it curious... so it came up in my internal dialogue as I cycled around Brisbane.

I had trouble that it would compound identity problems - but rather - help it. As the pressure on identity would actually free itself due to becoming more fluid. Just as someone responded using the clothes analogy, I think that it has much credit - if only underestimating the freedom.

I do not respond to this thinking I am right, as this may only benefit me. But I found it an interesting angle nonetheless.

Oh, believe me, I'd be ecstatic to be able to change into a man for a few days. And this wish comes up EVERY FRIGGING MONTH, and it will continue to do so for DECADES to come. *primal scream* *rips hair out*

Interesting poll, and interesting results! I wish there had been a "*probably* remain identified..." option on the last one, though -- I mean, this is stuff I haven't tried, how the heck do I know what I'd want after I'd tried it?!?

Thanks for good mind candy for the morning : )

Good point. I try to think of all of the likely responses when I create a poll, but I rarely succeed.

Just because I'm the sharing type:

Suppose nanotech or genetic engineering makes it possible to painlessly and flawlessly change your gender at will. What would you do?

I'd flit back and forth at will, dividing my time evenly.

I don't know if it would be exactly evenly, but I doubt I would settle for one or the other.

Now suppose that the same technology makes it possible to define new sexual morphologies.

I like that this is multiple options...

That sounds intriguing...
I would definitely experiment with new kinds of sexual form and sensation!
I would like to define a unique gender that only I possess, but which is compatible with others.
I would be interested in new sexual morphologies that would accomodate more than one other partner.
I might possess more than one sex organ at a time.

You would...

Probably define myself as belonging to a new gender altogether.

This goes down as one of the best LJ surveys I have taken. And very fitting.

If I have time after classes I would like to share my answers on my own LJ.

take care!

I'm not very surprised about the results of the last question--our birth gender identity is pounded into us almost every day. We have to separate ourselves to go to the bathroom, the high-school football team versus the volleyball team, seemingly gender-specific toys for babies, etc.

If such a technology were to exist, however, I would think after a few generations had passed, perhaps gender identification would disappear. Of course, one could make the same argument about race because we already have the opportunity to mate with whomever we choose and have had that choice for a while now, yet people still by and large choose to pair up with others from their own race.

I saw the movie, Exchange, the other day that centered around a technology where you could swap bodies with someone over vast distances, regardless of gender or race, and experience life in someone else's body. Interesting little piece of work--another interesting question to ponder is that, if such a technology were to come about, would you swap bodies with your sex partner to experience sex from their perspective? Would you consider this monogamy, and if you were an opposite sex married couple using this technology, how would the Christian right choose to justify their inevitable opposition to such a thing?

We have to separate ourselves to go to the bathroom, the high-school football team versus the volleyball team, seemingly gender-specific toys for babies, etc.

That trend drives me insane. I did not understand it when I was six (can't remember any earlier than that) and still don't.

Not the same. The equivalent would be ability to change our coloration, eye shape, etc to suit our moods. People who care about race tend to define race based on appearance (which is the only biological difference anyway).

would you swap bodies with your sex partner to experience sex from their perspective

Dude, anyone who would refuse to do that if they were able to should be dumped immediately. What kind of person could have the opportunity to find out first hand what works for their lover and just turn it down?

how would the Christian right choose to justify their inevitable opposition to such a thing

With as large of a lack of logic and as they use to justify their opposition to everything else.

I think it's because deep down the boys are scared of the girls. It may seem simplistic and childish, and they'll never admit it as such, but it's the only thing that really explains a lot of things I see go on. For example, in the Leather/BDSM Scene, you'll have a gay male club or organization. They have no problem (obviously) playing together. But the moment they go pansexual and the het couples and lesbians start coming in, the gay boys run away (generally to go and set up their own boys only, no girls allowed "clubhouse" somewhere else). It's sad really, because they often have some of the most knowledgeable players and intense and moving scenes you'll ever see in the BDSM scene.

Now I understand the need for safe gendered space (one of the reasons I won't go to women's only events, even though I self identify as feminine), but a lot of them end only hanging out at the boys only places.

And it's not just the BDSM scene either. Look at the challenges that were involved with getting the military to accept women or how uncomfortable some guys get when their girl friends are just as much into sports or video games as they are.

maybe it's just me, but....

I don't think I'd experiment, except maybe to have a penis for a day, but I'd definitely be seducing people who *had* tinkered with their bodies in interesting ways.

That's an interesting approach. Too bad I didn't think to include that slant in my survey. :)

That is an interesting angle.

As a person who would change sexual identities, this angle drives me absolutely crazy.

And would make a pornographic revolution never before seen.
