It's funny, but this year I don't feel Mardi Gras brewing in the air the way I usually do. Usually by this time, less than three weeks away from Mardi Gras day, I can feel a slight buzzing in my muladhara. I had to remind myself yesterday that the Krewe du Vieux parade is this Saturday. (See the list of sub-krewes for a hint of what I mean.)
This is one of my favorite parades. I might actually put some effort into trying to secure a balcony seat somewhere so I can get a few snapshots of the more irreverent or bawdy sights. This is the most pagan of the parades, with many displays incorporating blatant phallic or other bodily themes, adult humor, and ruthless political satire.
Other parades I'm looking forward to include Muses, Hermes (always a rather serious and elaborate dedication to one Greek deity or another, practically an act of worship), Tucks (much political funniness), and Zulu.
I'm even closer to the parade route now (5 blocks) than I was last year.
Edit.
ubiquity, maybe you'll get to catch a glimpse of Elijah Wood before I have to whisk you to the airport Sunday night. That might be pushing our luck, though... we'll see.
