At this point, politically I'm leaning towards the Green Party. Not officially, yet, but almost.

Many of my inclinations are libertarian, but my economic preference is for regulated capitalism. Therefore, the Libertarians are too lassez-faire for me.

The Democrats are too vague and undefined.
The Natural Law party is too loony.
The US Taxpayer's Party is too... whatever they are.
The Reform Party is too nonexistent.
And the Republicans are too captive to the Christian right and the neo-conservative empire-builder-wannabes.

Did you catch the LJ post (from I forget who) who suggested we replace the 2 party system in the US with the Libertarians & the Greens? He argued that whatever compromizes they both agreed uipon would probably be good ones

Yes, I remember seeing that. An interesting idea. The only thing that worries me, is that mainstream Libertarianism would be a tremendous boon for corporations who feel no hesitation about sacrificing people's lives in the name of profit. I want a huge banner that says, "Remember Firestone! Remember Ford!" What they did may not be the most egregious corporate abuse ever, but it's recent enough that Americans should be able to reach back into their foggy memory and remember waaaaay back to 2-3 years ago...

I'm a Green. I do have to squelch my Libertarian tendencies a bit, but not too much. My biggest problem with the Greens is that nationally they're very youngwhitemale (which is me) but my local is pretty diverse.

Most of the Greens I have met are indeed young, white, and male, but they seem to have pretty good ideas about gender and race (and sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.) nonetheless...

One thing I don't like about the Green Party is that they have this 'recruitment mentality' wrt attracting 'a diverse membership'. Treating minorities and the underprivledged like a commodity seems disrespectful to me. Instead of trying to attract minorities, etc, Greens should look them for leadership, and offer/ask to partner with them in activist causes. I feel uncomfortable, as a young, white, more or less Christian person who falls pretty far to the straight end of the straight - gay continuum, and pretty far to the male end of the male - female continuum, trying to pretend that I'm enlightened and inclusive when inclusiveness is something I have complete control over. I still like the Greens and their platform, but I've gotten over my initial infatuation. If that makes sense at all. I could just be rambling as I all too often do!
