Reported in [livejournal.com profile] transnews:

Virginia's General Assembly yesterday passed into law one the most discriminatory and restrictive anti-family and anti-marriage bills in the country. The law not only prohibits the state from recognizing civil unions, but it also outlaws "any partnership contract or other arrangements that purport to provide the benefits of marriage."

What makes people hate someone they have never met so much, that they feel the need to destroy so many lives like this? I feel like crying.

The enemies of love, the blasphemous fomenters of hatred and discord, disguise themselves as the bearers of peace in the name of Christ.

I aim myself like a flaming arrow at the heart of hatred. I will not relent in my opposition to hate. DO YOU HEAR ME!! I will not go away. You will not rid the earth of me, nor my brothers and sisters. You will not prevail. You have already lost, by opening your heart to that which divides people from one another.

Edit. I've concluded that the forces of hatred and discord have finally managed to steal Jesus from us for good, that his teachings are irretrivably lost behind the wall of misery and the fog of error. I am going to dedicate myself therefore to finding and defining a new vision.

Over the past several years I have expended a lot of energy dedicated to the idea that no matter what opinions or beliefs there are which separate people, we are all human underneath, and that it is possible even in spite of differing beliefs to appeal to that common humanity and in so doing begin to build a bridge to peace.

After all, we all face the same fears, the same hopes, the same needs, the same disappointments. We live in the same world, we watch the same terrifying events unfold, and if we cannot find a path to peace, then how can we come together when we need to, to face a common threat?

But it is so much easier for people to destroy and to foment discord, than to build bridges of peace.

I fear it is impossible to build a bridge to peace with someone who hates me so much he will write a mean-spirited law such as the one just passed in Virginia. Such a person has never met me, but he already hates me because of the way I love, which is something that doesn't affect him in the least. He is afraid and wants to have an enemy to destroy, because in his mind surely someone must be to blame for the ills of life. He has made me into that person.

At some point, one must just draw a line and say, "No, I do not have the energy to continue building a bridge that you are just going to tear down again."

To the fomenters of discord and hate, I say congratulations. Because of you I no longer have the energy to be reasonable. Now you will find out what my mind is capable of when I am being UNreasonable.

Edit. The hatemongers have been up to it in Michigan, too, passing a law that would allow doctors and pharmacists to deny care to someone on the basis of faith. If you are queer and live in Michigan, you may now have a harder time finding proper healthcare.

The Free State Project is a movement that is gathering the promises of 20,000 libertarians, to move to New Hampshire once enough people have been assembled.

The idea is that 20,000 libertarians converging on New Hampshire would create a large enough contingent to be able to affect the laws of the state.

Suppose... suppose a large number of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, intersex, pagan, and poly people all moved to the same state, until a saturation point was reached. At that point we woul be a large enough community to affect state policy, or were even a majority. A place where we knew that, no matter what, we were welcome and accepted, where we could live as we wish without fear of reprisal and bigotry.

By estimate, we make up 5-10% of the population. Heck, we could take over several states.
