The
COMBINED GENDER IDENTITY AND TRANSSEXUALITY INVENTORY ( COGIATI )
RESULTS

Your COGIATI result value is: 75
Which means that you fall within the following category:

COGIATI classification THREE, ANDROGYNE

What this means is that the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory has classified your internal gender identity to be essentially androgynous, both male and female at the same time, or possibly neither.

In some cultures in history, you would be considered to be a third sex, independent of the polarities of masculine or feminine. Your gender issues are intrinsic to your construction, and you will most likely find your happiness playing with expressing both genders as you feel like it.

mentioned in [livejournal.com profile] transnews:

"After years of study, the Vatican's doctrinal congregation has sent church leaders a confidential document concluding that 'sex-change' procedures do not change a person's gender in the eyes of the church. Consequently, the document instructs bishops never to alter the sex listed in parish baptismal records and says Catholics who have undergone 'sex-change' procedures are not eligible to marry, be ordained to the priesthood or enter religious life, according to a source familiar with the text."

Vatican says 'sex-change' operation does not change person's gender

(This started out as a response to a reply to my last post, but I wanted to highlight it in my journal rather than allow it to get lost in the reply-response tree.)

The Vatican is not addressing gender as a "choice," we have not progressed to the point where gender is for anyone a true matter of choice -- so no one is trying to put "fashionable gender choice" on the table. Yet, anyways.

To be honest I have very mixed feelings about the modern "sexual reassignment" procedure. In the past many people were railroaded into this for whom it was not appropriate; and many people who needed it were excluded because they could not conform to a given stereotype. There have been improvements, but the system, and the religious reaction to it, both belie the deeper reality -- that gender is a much deeper mystery than tradition would have us believe.

I do not think that people are born with "mistaken" gender. I think that the whole social notion of "gender duality" in general does not match human biological and psycho-sexual reality.

It is not a matter of "God making mistakes," as those in the Vatican think transsexual advocacy is basically saying. By concluding that changing the flesh does not change the soul, they have remained at a very superficial level, and not taken on the real challenge presented by transgenderism.

I very much doubt that the soul itself is innately male or female. And that alone is the basis of my reaction to the Vatican's decision. They appear to believe that gender is soul-deep, and furthermore, that individuals are less likely than the almighty Church to know how they really feel.

"Male" and "female" are social constructions. We know this because a comparison of gender experience around the globe bears considerable variance (even if there is often much cross-culture similarity too). The human individual looks around at the world; and based on some combination of emotional holistic, upbringing, experiences, hormonal balances, and conceptual development, fits into a gender. Or not.

If one's biological sex "does not compute," the error is either within the individual or within society. Probably both, to some degree. But in any case the individual's experience demonstrates that the human desire to divide reality into discrete units is, once again, insufficient.

So, I have "manly" grease stains on my hand and entire right arm from having to reach into the engine of the hooptie yesterday. Was putting oil in and the cap fell into an unfortunate position resting on the timing belt. Also got to replace the battery, which had died. I can be butch. Grr.

The car is in remarkably good shape and seems to be generally sound. It is a remarkable deal at $200. I drove it a couple of miles and noticed no serious problems. We didn't complete the sale yesterday though as we didn't make it to the title transfer place on time. That will have to be taken care of today.

Last night Dee, James, and I saw [livejournal.com profile] luminoustears for the first time in about four months. I knew she had a livejournal but was uncertain what her username was until last night. She is moving to Boston soon, though -- I will miss her! But in the meantime we are all planning a little party Saturday night.
