The citizens of Denver are having a vote on whether to legalize 1 oz or less of marijuana, and the DEA has this dire prediction:

"People will flock to Denver to use marijuana," said Sergeant Stedenko Jeffrey Sweetin, head of the Rocky Mountain Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

No they won't. People are not going to 'flock' somewhere to use one ounce of marijuana. He must be on crack.

Maybe he sees people flocking there as a good thing=)
Your statement that he must be on crack, cracked me up.

This is the same outfit that thinks, as a matter of official policy, that pot is a much bigger threat to public order and public health than meth.

Just like people flock to Vegas for legal hookers instead of picking up women off the streets!

Oh wait.

Why, is it cheaper to fly to Denver than to buy oneself some underground plants? Not from what I know, but I guess it depends on how far one is flying...

Somebody should point out to this twit that they already flock to Boston. It's not even legal here, but about an eighth of our population uses it IIRC, and our city has somehow not collapsed in a rampage of crime and lawlessness like a bad 1980's Republican-wet-dream cop drama.

Of course, my jaundiced opinion is that people who don't secretly hope to live in a bad 1980's cop drama don't join organizations like the DEA in the first place.

That's just it -- the fine in some places is less than airfare (plus rental car and hotel and food) to Denver.

So, is Denver supposed to look at increased travel by PARTICULARLY HUNGRY tourists as a bad thing? :))

I'll put it this way: in spite of the coldness, did people flock to Alaska in the 1970s? If they did, it was more to get a chunk of oil revenue than the chance to smoke an ounce of teh herb in the privacy of their own homes...

Another point:

...Oh, yeah, and we here in Denver seem to be handling all the stoners from ::mock sneer:: Boulder perfectly well; if they do come, we'll be able to deal with 'em pothead touristas...
;-)

We won't be flocking to Denver, especially when we don't have to...
I don't know what the DEA is smoking to come up with their crazy ideas, but pot has been everywhere I've been, and that's about 40+ states and a couple different countries.

*giggle*

Check to make sure that the measure isn't secretly being funded by Denver's all-night restaurants and 7-11s...

He obviously underestimates the availiability of the drug, or the desperation from the culture that uses it.

But then again, the fact they call it a Cannabis Problem rather than a Culture speaks volumes about their lack of social insight.
