Here's another thought on that. Even if we now produce enough calories worth of food to feed everyone on earth, we have not achieved post-scarcity with respect to transportation costs. We also have to worry about the effects on food production of what now appears to be runaway global warming (meaning that it looks increasingly doubtful that we could stop it now).
