questionofgod, members are giving summaries of their creeds. This is the summary of mine which I provided.
My ideas about God:
· God is that which never acts yet leaves nothing undone. (Paraphrase from the Tao Te Ching.)
· God is the potential whereby things exist and events occur.
My ideas about cultivating awareness of divine presence:
· "Nothing in all creation is so like God as stillness." (Meister Eckhart)
· The stillness of the meditator becomes the stillness that is the divine presence.
· Once this awareness has been cultivated, the mystic must turn this awareness (which is potential) outward into action for it to manifest.
· The human brain contains the keys whereby one can cultivate awareness of divine presence.
· We are all called upon to be the savior.
My ideas about creation/reality/the universe:
· Though we can make distinctions between one "thing" and another, everything "inter-is" with everything else. (from Thich Nhat Hanh)
· "Spirit" interpenetrates all living things; each of us borrows a "spark" of this eternal spirit which returns to the whole upon our passing. This is what I believe some sages mean when they speak of "eternal life" and what other sages mean when they speak of nirvana or the dissolution of the self.
· The "self" is a piece of the larger "Self". This view reflects the Vedic notion of Brahman and Atman.
Edit. This entry will be updated from time to time, to reflect evolving clarification of my creedal summary.
