Are memories of a Golden Age simply the foggy memories of existing peacefully in the womb?

The Gnostic myth teaches that the pneumatic soul is alien to this world of pain and turmoil, a visitor from a realm of stillness and nothingness ensnared by the futile promises of flesh. Implicit in this is the suggestion that mystic experiences of heaven or of pleromatic fullness are related to memories of stillness in the womb.

Carl Jung suggested the fish as the perfect symbol for the emergent, individuated self -- the person of perfect gnosis. Another suggestion is that the fish represents unreconciled elements of the unconconsious, bits of the mind not connected to our sense of self that appear and disappear beneath the murky waters of dreams and unawareness.

Is that why the fish has suddenly made an appearance as the perfect harbinger of doom? Why are people so quick to believe in a talking fish when so many obvious technological explanations for a hoax come to mind?

Here's praying Saddam and his sons take a good long look at the travel brochures for Bahrain. Maybe they could even start a tea and tennis club for former dictators in cushy retirement exiles.

So, 15 of the 30 nations in the "coalition of the willing" aren't even willing to have their names listed at a press conference? How 'willing' can they possibly be? And look at the ones who were listed. The U.S., Turkey, and Uzbekistan -- partners for freedom. Schyeah. It's like living in a Philip K. Dick novel.

But I don't have to look at the world for insanity, it's right here on my doorstep. Apparently there's a bill in Baton Rouge that would allow us to choose between "In God We Trust" on our license plates and the current blurb, "Sportsmen's Paradise." THAT's a choice? Why can't I choose "None of the Above?" Well, someone is suggesting "America's Wetland" too, maybe they'll combine the bills and make that a third option. In any case all of them are more palatable than "Freedom" or some-such.

Also it seems that the Superdome and the "mini-me" (the New Orleans Arena) are facing budget shortfalls. So I wonder, with a sigh, what Medicaid programs to severely disabled children are going to be cut THIS time so the state won't bounce its check to the NFL?
