High-carb doctors on the defensive
Jul. 26th, 2002 08:48 amIn some of my journal entries and LJ discussions with
alobar , the theory behind the low-carb or selective-carb diet approach has come up. If there's weight (no pun intended) behind the theory, the high-carb-diet doctors are going to find they have a lot of egg dripping from their faces. Now that there's been a lot of attention in the media to the low-carb approach, they are on the defensive.
To Carb, or Not to Carb?
"'Next time you talk to someone on one of these diets, pay attention to their mental state, how alert they seem,' says [Heather Holden, RD, LDN, clinical dietitian at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville]. 'The lack of carbohydrates tends to make them seem a bit fuzzy mentally because the brain is not getting enough fuel. Is that any way to diet?'"
Hmm, well, if Ms. Holden asked me, I'd tell her I'm much more alert and have much more energy now than I did before.
