While digging through my boxes last night for some old notes i want to incorporate into my ongoing writing project, i found my cache of old newsletters from transgender support groups to which i belonged almost 20 years ago, along with correspondence i received during that time period from folks like Dallas Denny and Holly Boswell.

The correspondence i want to hold onto, but the newsletters may have some historical value. I'd love to find out if there are any LGBT archivists in the area to whom i could contribute these. They'd take better care of them than i have. Anyone have any suggestions?

Apparently Northeastern University keeps some LGBT-related archives as part of its special collections. I found this out while looking for some archival information on a gay men's organization.

Some LGBT community centers will have an archival section as part of their libraries and collections.

Most "official" LGBT-focused archives I am aware of have their offices in California.

I know they are starting to assemble trans related stuff - I will be giving them a big box of stuff this summer from MTPC, Gender Crash, and other random queer stuff http://www.historyproject.org/

Hmm, it looks like they are only interested in Boston history - the newsletters and stuff i have are from groups in Dallas and North Carolina - but maybe i should contact them anyway and they can refer me to someone who might be interested in archiving this stuff.

Thanks!

Totally off-topic, but your mention of Shussler Fiorenza caught my eye, and I'm friending you, if that's ok.

Hello and welcome! But do note i don't talk much about religion anymore. For the time being i've said what i want to say about it. There's quite a lot about it in my memories and in relevant tags, though, including a few entries on Shussler Fiorenza; you are welcome to browse through all that as you please.

i just stumbled onto your journal for the first time, and i volunteer at the "national archive of LGBT history" based at the LGBT community center in NYC. this sounds like stuff we'd love to receive. if you're in MA, the stuff would need to get down here, but "book rate" postage is pretty cheap.

Actually, that looks like just the kind of thing i am looking for. Thank you!

I contacted them to see if it sounds like something they would be interested in. Thanks again!

They are interested in receiving the collection! It's kind of fascinating that something i boxed away and schlepped around without giving much of a thought for two decades could actually be of historical interest.

But i got to thinking how it's a shame how much of our history has been lost to 'phobia and hate and we have a chance now to preserve some of it, even that which seems mundane: these photocopied newsletters with makeup tips and electrolysis ads and the occasional small group politics. It's what we *had* before the internet to remind us that there were other people like us in the world.
