If you click no other link today, you absolutely must (or at least should) go here and watch the video (in three parts) of Stephen Colbert speaking truthiness to power directly at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

This took real nerve.

Edit. And in case you were wondering how much the mainstream media kisses up to the administration, see what it has to say about Stephen Colbert's performance. Look for a while; you will be lucky to find it even mentioned. Bloggers at the Huffington Post have been writing about the MSM's total whitewash of Colbert's speech here and here.

Edit-edit. This video might be difficult to watch, but in case you're inclined to feel sorry for President Bush after watching this, keep in mind that it was at this event last year that Bush lampooned the non-existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq by going around the room and looking under tables for them.

He and his family should probably avoid flying for the foreseeable future.

He'll have to fly chartered planes from now on anyway, since i suspect his name will suddenly appear on the no-fly list.

Sullivan has written about it.

You can also send Colbert a thank you note on that site.

Being the media ignorant person I am, I never heard of him until I watched his tirade against the Bushanistas.

He has a show on Comedy Central, the Colbert Report, in which he spoofs (uncannily) the kind of right-wing cheerleader-type talk shows that have proliferated in recent years. Before this he gained some notoriety for coining (or at least making popular) the term "truthiness", his take on Orwellian media spin that creates lies which pass for truth, unhindered by facts and reality.

I have not had cable or watched network TV in over 6 yerars, and when I did watch TV, I watrched movies, and not much else.

I don't really watch any TV either (except, nowadays, for episodes of past TV shows on DVD) but you can catch episodes of his show online, too.

Absolutely brilliant. I went to c-span.org to download the whole dinner. Did you catch what Colbert was following? Actually, GWB and his look-alike were quite funny--tough act to follow.

But Colbert nailed it. The live audience, of course, didn't appreciate it, but he nailed it.

I'm almost tempted to watch TV again, if only for Comedy Central.

One can also buy whole, commercial free episodes of the Colbert Report & The Daily Show from iTunes! Well worth it.

That was amazing.

I'd like to think that I'd be that brave in the pinch, but I've never been tested.

I did watch the part of the comedy act where bush made fun of himself. That I thought was brilliant. But..I certainly didn't catch Steven Colberts speech..I will look at it later though! Thanks for the heads up.
