A conversation with [livejournal.com profile] lady_babalon and [livejournal.com profile] secret_willow made me wonder how many people the average LJer has been friended by. This is hardly scientific, but I am curious...

Where it says "friend of," read that to mean "mutual friends" + "also friended by."

very interesting. i've always wondered what the critical mass is before the friend of numbers accelerate into the stratosphere.

just curious: how many ljers do you communicate with through these pages on a daily basis.

my daughter and i were talking about this, because she thinks i'm an lj addict. i communicate with 4 of my friends on an almost daily basis.

Hmm... seems to be around 200.

When I'm busy, can't surf the net with completely free reign at work, and don't have my own (working) computer at home, I don't keep up with many people at all on LJ -- as at present -- a few very close friends. I feel bad about that, but it's all I can do.

LJ addiction is not necessarily a bad thing, because it is a helpful way to keep up with some people.

yes, it is. and i have been following your transitions and adjustments to life in boston. welcome to one of the worst winters we have had in years. you seem to have made a nice warm place for yourself in the north. when the weather warms you should come to gloucester sometime. it is an hour train ride north of boston through some of the most beautiful scenery of our coast.

How many people would you say is a reasonable sample group?

Chosen at random? Offhand I think 50-100 would give you accuracy within 10%.

My old photojournal got up to about 570 -- but of those, maybe 30 ever actually commented, and 500 of them were empty, unused journals only used for joining nudie communities.
