On another level the Rastafarian railing against "Babylon" (and to a certain extent, the Jewish) is a railing against "paganism", the goddess, and polytheism.

Babylon - now Iraq - aka Persia, was probably the oldest civilization in the world. Civilization and the city-state arose for a reason. People found art, beauty, and safety in the cities; prosperity, less hunger, and order to protect themselves against a natural world that is not the kind sweet giving all-loving mother modern people sometimes seem to want to believe.
