Pet peeve of the day: referring to posts or entries as "blogs" or "diaries" instead of "blog entries" or "diary posts," e.g. "I like that blog you posted today."

It seems this is becoming the standard usage so i'll probably have to get over myself, but in the meantime, i'll grumble in a curmudgeonly manner.

I'm with you on that. I use "post" for anything I write for lj, a mailing list, or a newsgroup (if I still participated in newsgroups), and some people say that's incorrect and I should use different terms, but blog vs. blog post makes sense to me.

personally I never use the word blog unless i'm referring to a post on Blogger. In my mind blog is only a proper noun never, a verb.

I have conservative internet grammer rules. I refuse to use e-mail without the hyphen.

To me, blog is useful as a verb, as in "What did you blog today?", but certainly no when used as a noun for a single entry.

I've never heard it used that way, but then I haven't been paying attention to a lot of things lately. I'd interpret "I liked that blog you posted today" as "I like that blog you linked to in your post today."
