Even though you used the word "utopia", I tried to keep reality in mind while answering the question. If I didn't have to deal with the reality of human nature, I might have answered differently.

Sorry, I picked more than three. Sorry about that.

I find this a very interesting question, but I'm having difficulty interpreting "god with us" outside of the traditional authoritarian context, which I suspect is a misunderstanding on my part. Could you please clarify?

Other=peace, which is difference from tranquility

[identity profile] sophiaserpentia.livejournal.com 2005-07-28 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean any conception whereby people live in the immediate presence of God, as contrasted with the view that sees God as somehow separate or remote. If you're not a theological dualist, don't check this one.

[identity profile] sophiaserpentia.livejournal.com 2005-07-28 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect some people will answer taking current human nature in mind, whereas other people's conception of reality involves a fundamental shift in human nature. These answers will show up side-by-side.

Tsk. ;)

You realize some of us are going to perceive top domain catagories in here & go for those (I'd think mercy & justice could be viewed subsets of understanding, for example)

Pick three?
Only three?

Ack.

:p

I don't consider myself a theological dualist, but I think if I were to just check one box, I would probably check "God with us" because of the particular meaning of that phrase for me. So, I checked it plus 2 others.

Other

Education.

Your list does not grab me. No utopia can guarantee my happiness. But I want the right to pursue my happiness. I do not want immortality given to me. I want the right to pursue it. Freedom can be interpreted many ways. I want freedom from governmental snoopiong, freedom from intrusive advertizers. I want the government to be non-violent. Individuals I can deal with. I want personal freedoms and I most certainly do NOT want corporations given those same rights.

I'm sorry :(.

:-P;-)

It's probably important to note that, to me, Justice means financial equaliy.

[identity profile] liminalia.livejournal.com 2005-07-28 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! I picked freedom, justice, mercy because I figured that justice would include equality.

[identity profile] aerope.livejournal.com 2005-07-28 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
other: opportunity. i think that's slightly different from equality, and slightly different from freedom, sorry i don't have time to explain so i hope you know what i mean.

Watching these results is an interesting exercise in semiotics.

I chose

- Understanding
- Pleasure
- Happiness

Understanding for me, would have to be the most important. With Happiness as the result of the utopia.

[identity profile] kumbunny.livejournal.com 2005-07-29 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I meant to add that Understanding would help vehicle the chances for Equality and Freedom. The results of Understanding.

The fact people would choose God With Us makes me suspicious that any Utopia could be reached at all.

[identity profile] sophiaserpentia.livejournal.com 2005-07-29 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I struggled for a way to capture that conception of utopia in simple terms, which was why I added "Will" and "No barriers."

Re: OTHER

Understanding and No Barriers. Hmm, I could have put individuality, but that sort of thing might come under Will.
