I think the media treatment of transwomen has its origins in media treatment of women generally. I remember reading an article by Queen Noor of Jordan, recounting an important political speech she had given in the U.S. She was dismayed when the newspaper coverage of her talk led off with what she was wearing.

In a weird, twisted way, you're being treated like those of us born female. Not that that's a good thing.
