As long as a term is considered respectful, i don't care which term you use. It's not just a matter of using different terms. Some black people prefer "black" to "African-American". It's recognizing the role which language plays in perpetuating the wrongs.
I certainly share your fear of Newspeak (especially as it is being employed with regards to the war) but in what way is the government involved with enforcing political correctness? The current administration, congress, and courts are openly hostile and cynical towards it (as witnessed by their current bellyaching over who says "Merry Christmas").
