I would consider stability, longevity, and so forth to measure success. I'm not interested so much in things like "military dominance" or "corporate dominance" as those things are empires which will inevitably fall.

I suppose it is no coincidence that ethical and philosophical systems like those which developed in China or India have tended to have quite a bit of influence on me.
