Read poetry instead. To me it's a different way of getting at the same thing Scripture is trying to get to, and it's *assumed* that everyone's interpretation or experience of a poem is going to be different. I highly recommend the anthology Cries of the Spirit by Beacon Press for starters, or Marge Piercy.
